Understanding the pathway helps you know where to start and where to go next:

Community Coach – Entry-level, required for all new coaches.

Club Coach (Level 1) – For those coaching at rep or higher levels.

Association Coach – Advanced level, typically for senior or performance squads.

Performance Coach – Elite-level accreditation for high-performance coaching environments.
To coach in any junior representative or development capacity, you’ll need:

Completion of the Basketball Australia Community Coaching Course (minimum requirement for all coaches, including domestic)

NCAS (National Coaching Accreditation Scheme) Club Coach Accreditation – this is required for Head and Assistant Coaches in the Representative Program and is not required for domestic-level coaching. A valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Valid SDBA/BNSW registration

Completion of the Safe Coaching module via Play by the Rules – required as part of the Club Coach Accreditation for representative-level coaches. This module is not mandatory for domestic-level coaching unless you are pursuing accreditation.

Agreement to the Basketball NSW Member Protection Policy

Adherence to the Basketball NSW Code of Conduct and all SDBA policies

2026 Representative HEAD Coach Information
Whether you have coached in our program before or are joining us for the first time, we thank you for your interest in coaching with Sutherland Basketball in 2026. Coaches play a pivotal role in the success of our representative program.
Our Program Objectives:

Provide a quality representative program and experience to improve the skills and knowledge of players and coaches.

Consistently implement the Sharks style of play.

Provide pathways and opportunities for coaches to advance their skills and knowledge.
The Approval Process:

All coaches will be selected by an appointed panel and approved by the SDBA Board.

Applicants may be invited to an interview as part of the selection process.
Coaching Requirements:

Head and Assistant Coaches must hold a minimum NCAS Club Coach accreditation.

All coaches must hold a valid SDBA/BNSW registration.
-
All coaches must have a valid NSW Working With Children Check or be able to obtain one.

Completion of the Safe Coaching module via Play by the Rules.

Adherence to all policies and procedures set by the SDBA Board.

Attendance at scheduled coaches meetings and educational workshops as directed.
