Sutherland Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Leigh Sargeant as
our NEW Athletic Performance Head Coach, a key role designed to elevate athletic
development, optimise performance systems, and strengthen the organisation’s
long-term competitive strategy.
In the new role, Leigh will oversee performance planning, lead multidisciplinary
collaboration, implement evidence-based training frameworks across all athlete
programs, deliver our strength and conditioning program and begin to build the
frame work, for long-term athlete success within the Association.
This position is central to ensuring that the coaching staff and athletes are aligned in
achieving peak performance throughout the competitive season.

of our performance program under Leigh’s leadership. I feel the future is incredibly
bright for our association as we enter into a new era of athlete performance and
basketball programming here at the association.”
Leigh will commence his new role with the Sutherland in early January 2026 and will
work collectively with our lead coaches and development officer, as well as our
representative coaches to build the framework for athletic performance across our
High Performance, Representative and Emerging Sharks programs.
