The Board has developed this strategy to provide clear direction for the future of basketball in the Shire. With participation growing and facility demand increasing, we must plan proactively to ensure we can continue to provide opportunities for current and future generations.
Our three major targets by 2030 are:
6,000 Members – Growing participation and opportunities across all ages and abilities.
10 Courts – Advocating for fit-for-purpose facilities to meet current demand and future growth.
20% Partnership Revenue – Building stronger partnerships that reinvest back into our basketball community.
The 6•10•20 Strategy is built around four key strategic pillars that will guide the future direction of basketball in the Sutherland Shire:
1. Growing the Game

Creating more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in basketball, while strengthening development pathways for players, coaches, referees and volunteers.
2. Building a Strong Community
(Experience & Engagement)
Enhancing the experience of members, families, volunteers and partners by building stronger connections, engagement and a sense of belonging within the basketball community.
3. Strengthening Our Foundations
(Governance & Sustainability)
Building a strong, sustainable and well-governed organisation that supports long-term success, responsible decision-making and financial sustainability.
4. Leading the Future
(Partnerships & Leadership)
Developing strong partnerships, advocacy and leadership opportunities that support growth, investment and positive outcomes for basketball in the Shire.
The 𝟲•𝟭𝟬•𝟮𝟬 Strategy is designed to strengthen the basketball experience for everyone connected to Sutherland Basketball — including players, parents, families, coaches, referees, volunteers, officials, past players, supporters and the wider community.
Over time, the strategy aims to create stronger participation pathways, improved facilities, greater access to programs and competitions, enhanced development opportunities and a more sustainable Association that can continue investing back into basketball across the Sutherland Shire.
Whether you are stepping onto the court for the first time, supporting from the sidelines, volunteering, coaching or remaining connected to the game in other ways, the strategy is focused on creating a stronger future for basketball at every level.
We welcome involvement from members, families, volunteers, partners and the wider community as we bring the 6•10•20 Strategy to life.
There will be opportunities to become involved through:
• Providing feedback and ideas through surveys, consultation sessions and community forums.
• Volunteering across programs, events, competitions and game-day operations.
• Coaching, refereeing or mentoring to support player development and pathways.
• Joining working groups or advisory opportunities that may support key projects and priorities.
• Partnering or sponsoring to help strengthen programs, facilities and community outcomes.
