Basketball Otago and Sutherland District Basketball Association – home of the Sutherland Sharks – are proud to officially announce the launch of a new Trans-Tasman partnership.
This partnership brings together two like-minded organisations with a shared commitment to innovation, opportunity and community impact. The collaboration intends to enhance pathways for players, coaches and the wider basketball community.
The initial focus will centre on knowledge and resource sharing in player and coach development, as well as virtual exchanges and online workshops. Looking ahead, both associations are excited by the potential to grow the partnership into a regular touring and exchange program, including reciprocal visits, friendly games, joint training camps and cultural experiences.
Will Hopper, Basketball Otago’s Pathway Development Manager said: “Our vision is to be a leading association in creating meaningful opportunities for players and coaches to grow, develop and compete at a high level. With Sutherland Sharks competing in NBL1 for both Men & Women, we are very excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.”
Adrian Dark, General Manager of Sutherland District Basketball Association, was equally enthusiastic: “This is an amazing opportunity to develop our associations outlook on basketball development. The connection with Otago Basketball is one I believe will provide many opportunities for coaches, referees and players both at a junior and senior level. I am extremely excited by what lies ahead and what this partnership can bring to basketball within the Sutherland Sharks community and Otago Basketball.”
Both Basketball Otago and the Sutherland Sharks are encouraged by the unique and enriching experiences this partnership will offer and look forward to building a strong, long-term relationship that benefits both communities.
Further updates and announcements will be shared as plans develop in the coming months.
