The Sutherland District Basketball Association is excited to announce the appointment of several key staff to its Junior Development and High-Performance unit as the Association continues to strengthen its basketball delivery.

With the realignment of the basketball support programs to better cater for athlete development across the association, these key staff will play a pivotal part in ensuring that SDBA has the necessary leadership, experience and expertise to support and grow our athletes and coaches across our grassroots, development & high-performance programs.

Joining the Association is:

  • Lochlan Hutchison: Sharks Development Officer – Lochlan, a well-known elite player and coach within the association, will focus on developing and growing the association’s Learn to Play, Community, Academy and Emerging Sharks’ Programs as well as building our development coach pathway and skill level.
  • Geoff Gerlach:  Men’s High Performance Lead Coach – Geoff brings a wealth of experience to our Men’s program, currently serving as a development coach with the Sydney Kings (NBL) and having previously held an assistant coach role with Concordia University (NCAA) – Geoff will take the lead of our Men’s Representative and High-Performance Program in 2026.
  • Michael Turton: Women’s High Performance Lead Coach – Michael is our 2026 NBL1 Women’s head coach and has over 12 years of experience in the WNBL as an assistant coach and has held various positions within elite teams through Basketball Australia and Basketball NSW. Michael will take the lead on our women’s Representative and High-Performance program.

“These appointments represent an important step in elevating the basketball development and performance environment for our athletes” said General Manager Adrian Dark. “Each staff member brings a high level of expertise, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting our players both on and off the court. The association wants to see our current superstars matched with tomorrows future stars”

The new basketball development team will shortly be joined by a Head of Athletic Performance and will work collaboratively across our player development, strength and conditioning, sports science, medical services and player development to deliver a comprehensive, evidence-based performance program. The focus will include athlete readiness, injury prevention, recovery management and long-term junior development pathways.

This is an exciting step for Basketball within the Sutherland shire. Our new Development and High-Performance staff will commence with the association by conducting our Emerging Sharks & High-Performance program trials
