The Sutherland District Basketball Association is thrilled to announce that Kay Meadows and John Suva have been awarded Life Membership to the Sutherland District Basketball Association.
At the recent 37th Annual General Meeting members of the SDBA community voted unanimously for the inclusions of Kay and John who over many years have dedicated their time to the Association and surrounding community.
John Suva
John Suva has made an extraordinary contribution to SDBA since arriving in Australia in 1981. A former elite player and four-time All Sydney Conference First Team member, John transitioned to coaching with immediate impact—earning both NSW Senior and Junior Coach of the Year. As SDBA’s Director of Coaching (1995–2019), he developed countless juniors into state, NBL, WNBL, and U.S. college players. He ran over 70 camps, 30 coaching courses, and hosted top national and international coaches. John’s legacy is deeply embedded in the Sharks community through his mentorship, vision, and lifelong dedication to grassroots and elite basketball development.
Kay Meadows
Kay Meadows has been an active member of the Sutherland Sharks community since 1978 where Sharks Basketball first began at the YMCA Caringbah, along with her husband Barry (already a life member). Kay has enjoyed a long and productive time here at Sutherland Basketball which has included many volunteer roles and guiding the still operating Jannali Basketball Club.
Kay’s contribution to this club has spanned the best part of 45 years and her dedication to the club is something that is incredibly special.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kay and John on their induction to life membership, an award ceremony will be held for them in due course to receive their life membership pin and certificate.
Go Sharks !!!!
