Sutherland Sharks are excited to be sharing hosting duties on the 26th and 27th of August for the Spalding Waratah League and GTK Waratah Wheelchair League (Powered By Spalding) Finals.
Basketball NSW says “Saturday will see 16 semi-finals being played across the eight divisions at both venues with Sunday featuring eight grand finals at Sutherland.
The eight divisions battling it out for the ultimate prize are Waratah Men, Waratah Women, Waratah 1 Wheelchair League, Waratah 1 Youth Men, Waratah 1 Youth Women, Waratah 2 Wheelchair League, Waratah 2 Youth Men, and Waratah 2 Youth Women.
Bankstown Basketball Stadium will host the Waratah 2 Youth Women and Waratah 1 Youth Men semi-finals, and Sutherland Basketball Stadium will host the remainder of the semi-finals and all grand finals.
Senior Manager of Competitions & Leagues, Chanelle Bailey, said Basketball NSW is excited to bring together such a large array of basketball talent across the finals weekend.
“The hosting of these Finals marks the culmination of a hard-fought season and is set to be an incredible event. The atmosphere at both venues will no doubt be electric as teams strive for glory in this year’s competition,” said Bailey.
“We are very thankful to Sutherland & Bankstown Basketball for working together with us to facilitate our senior representative competition. Both of their senior programs are doing well, and we anticipate good numbers across both venues!”
Sutherland will host the pinnacle event again after their hosting duties in 2020 during an impacted season and finals weekend after the pandemic forced many fans to watch from home after venue person limitations.
Sharks General Manager Adrian Dark said, “We are excited to be co-hosting the 2023 Waratah League and GTK Waratah Wheelchair League (Powered by Spalding) Finals with Bankstown Basketball and Basketball NSW. The Waratah Senior League continues to grow across the board and I look forward to welcoming all the teams, officials and volunteers to the shire”.
Bankstown will cater for four games on Saturday to assist with court space and allow many of the teams more opportunity to have their supporters join in the stands.
Bruins CEO Christian Gobolos said “It’s a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with Sutherland Basketball and BNSW to showcase the final series of the Waratah Leagues. I wish all finals bound teams the best of luck over the weekend and welcome all visiting officials, dignitaries and supporters to Bankstown Stadium.”
BNSW would like to thank all the officials, coaches, players and associations that have been involved throughout the season and congratulate them on their successes.
We wish every team involved the best of luck leading up to the finals and urge everyone to come out and show their support for their teams at Sutherland Basketball Stadium & Bankstown Basketball Stadium in late August.
